Well that was different than last week. Spoilers for 7X09 but no spoilers for preview please.

So, I'm kind of stunned. I wanted different after last week, and that's what I got. This episode did what Supernatural does best - set us up, suck us in, jerk a tear or two, make us think it's going one way, and then go for the kill-shot.

I will definitely be watching this one again, but for now, I'm just kind of reeling from first impressions. Bobby being so awesome, from the first scene to the last.... Calling them "little grubs." He loves them so much. In some ways, more than John did I think - maybe cause he really knows them. I really, really hope they don't kill Bobby, but with this show, you never know. They killed John, they killed Cas.

So yeah. Wow.

The writing in this felt really tight. Humorous without trying so hard. Surprisingly touching. Bobby's conversation with Sam and then his subsequent conversation with Dean about tore my heart out. And in this episode, that's as literal a sentiment as I can come up with. Lots of hearts being torn out, ranger parts, cat's heads....this show.

Sorry for the stream-of-consciousness. Kind of thinking as I go. Anybody else? What did you think of this one? To me, it felt like last week's episode never happened...a very, very good thing.

eeeee! We had a power failure and I missed the first 15 mins. Better that than the last 15 mins though!

Sometimes I think the show has used Bobby as a crutch, but eps like these? I ♥ Bobby a billionty!

I agree the show has over-used Bobby at times, but I just like him so much. Love how he loves the boys. I don't want anyone else who has loved them since they were little kids to die. John was enough.

You'll definitely want to watch the first 15 minutes.

I really enjoyed it! The whiners at TWoP are calling it boring and tedious, but I didn't think that at all. Nice bait and switch, boys putting their thinking caps on, stoned!Dean, lovely quiet moments...

As I just posted at my LJ, I don't buy for one second that Bobby's going to die. I think they'll drag it out as a cliffhanger over the hiatus, but I cannot imagine them killing him off. John had to die for the story to pivot; Cas had to die because they ruined the character. Bobby's firing on all cylinders. At this point, for the audience, killing him wouldn't be a gut punch. It'd be more like, "Really, Show? More of this nonsense?"

Huh. I didn't find it the least bit boring, but I am ridiculously easy when it comes to this show. I've never even taken a peek at TWoP. No interest. :-)

I really hope they don't kill Bobby. But you really never know with this show....

I don't think they'll kill Bobby (they better not), but holy foreshadowing. When Bobby told Dean that if he died before Bobby did he'd kill him, I thought "oh, God."

I liked this episode a lot, but I didn't love it. Dick was awesome, I love high powered executive bad guys with their rah-rah corporate speak. And I loved stoned Dean and the cats head was just fantastic. Bobby was awesome in Dick's office. And hunting and tracking and taking care of his boys. Okay, maybe I did love it on second thought!

I really liked it. Honestly, it felt very old school, which is a good thing for me when it comes to this show. I was scared during the forest scenes, grossed out during the autopsy, moved by all the references to Sam and Dean as little grubs (oh Bobby!), and really glad to see the Sammy!hand again.

I seriously miss Lucifer. The declarations this show wrings out of me...

LOVED IT! Awesome from start to finish. Kripke PROMISED they'd never kill Bobby. He'd better have made Sera sign an agreement, or something.

I'd never heard that. Normally, I'd be all 'yawn' about a major character in peril, but not this show. :-)

SO MUCH LOVE. It harkened back to the early days of SPN and all the tremendous qualities that hooked us in the first place! The darkness, the snappy dialogue, humor, grimness, twists, daring. You get my drift.

I don't think they'll kill Bobby. He might be in a coma for...who knows how long. But Bobby really has become one of the show's keystones. If they off him, wow. I dread to think.

Edlund KNOWS Show. Thank God for him, after that last episode.

I really love Edlund's episodes. It definitely reminded me of SPN in its glory days - you're right about the darkness. It was scary and gross and heart-tugging.

I do hope Dean's issues come to a head soon. He has been world-on-his-shoulders for so long now. Conversely, I hope Sam gets more screwed up than he is currently showing. Such warped priorities. :)

Eeeeep, I liked it a lot, too. I don't think they're going to kill Bobby right now, but I honestly believe they should kill him at some point this season. I mean, I love Bobby, but if this season is about stripping away what the Winchesters are used to Bobby would be the ultimate example of that.

Yay, I'm so glad you liked it too and even more glad you don't think they'll kill him now, but do you really think they'll kill him this season? Really???

I think I was hoping someone would convince me that my fears were completely unfounded. ;)

Whether they will or not, I have no idea. Maybe they'll just have him out of commission for a while? But it's been my opinion for a couple years now that--even though I love Bobby--he should be taken away from the boys for the sake of the story.

I'd take a coma. For a few episodes. I agree that Sam and Dean need to do this on their own for a while.

Woo-freakin'-hoo!!!! That's my Show. That. Rocked. So good. I love this writer. Love this director. Love the boys. Love Bobby. I don't think they'll kill him. Well, not yet. But it's smart to put him in peril. Because this is the final straw for Dean. Clear as a bell. If they need Dean to crack then this is how to do it.

I know! I'm just so relieved that this was a good one and that we can forget all about last week's episode.

I really really want Dean to get better. And I really really want Sam to get worse.

What does this say about me?

I hear you re Sam but I don't think it's going to happen. I think the Show is done with Hell and this is how they intend to solve it for Sam. It's not out of character. He's into control. He has figured out a way to control the situation with the technique he got from Dean re a 'real' wound versus the memories.

Just like the Show never really dealt with Dean's post-Hell I don't think we're going to see much more for Sam.

Dean, though, has been a slide for a year or years (depending on your view of the missing year). He's going to break. And Bobby might be the tipping point.

I guess I should let go of that hope and just read a lot of fic. Ancastar keeps assuring me that hell will be back, and she got the end of Season 5 right, so I'll just keep the faith a little longer.

I just want Dean to enjoy himself again. Be happy. I loved watching him eat that sandwich (until it started oozing and stuff) because he just got so much pleasure from it. Did you notice Sam's little amused smile? We all just want Dean to be happy again....

Loved it! This is exactly how I like my Supernatural humour, unlike last week. Loved Bobby playing hunter!therapist with Sam and Dean, and Dean issues with depression, alcohol, and suicidal ideation actually being talked about. And Sam wringing his hands, digging into his scar, all the while telling everyone how OK he is. NOT REALLY BUYING IT, SAM. But I love him so much for trying, you know?

And Bobby was awesome, and I have no idea if he's really dead or not, and I will miss him terribly if he's gone. But not as much as Sam & Dean will. They will be so alone if he's really gone. I can't even imagine.

Yay, I'm so glad you liked it too! I completely agree about the humor. Understated and actually funny this week.

Please, please, please Show....let Sam not be as okay as he thinks he is. Not yet anyway.

And please let Dean enjoy food and life again when he's not stoned.

That's all. I am seriously kind of disturbed when it comes to this show.

I want to write sonnets to Ben Edlund and Guy Bee. Just a brilliant episode all round. Loved it and want to watch it over and over again and draw hearts around ESPECIALLY Bobby. For me it was like the antithesis of all that was wrong with lats weeks I must admit. To be honest I feel kinda set up with the way those episodes screened. Like they knew that last weeks was gonna be received as a weak one. So lets just throw em all off completely with how utterly brilliant this one is gonna be. BASTARDS! lol - I love 'em.

I agree so much. I can't wait to watch this again, except for my uneasiness about Bobby.

I kind of got the feeling they were proud of last week's episode....kind of like a parent who is blind to the fact that their kid in choir can't hit a note. But I'll forgive them and move on. :)

The writing in this felt really tight. Humorous without trying so hard. Surprisingly touching Amen to that. Stoner!Dean was a delight, but they didn't take the joke too far. And there were some fabulous lines in here that weren't trying to stand out too hard. (Dean realizing what Crowley meant by hating Dick was a particular favourite, as was Bobby's entire speech to each of them ::sniff:: - and also Dean's rejoinder about getting him a condo.

And may I say how much I am loving the Leviathans as the big bad?? My, but Sera is doing Kripke proud in the ick stakes. Bibbing indeed...*g*

Wow what a cliffhanger - way to keep us chewing our nails for a fortnight, eh?

I KNOW! I loved watching Dean enjoy food again. And the Dick lines were almost understated and seriously funny.

I know it isn't a universal opinion, but I really enjoy the Leviathans. Sort of like demons, but so much more pragmatic and not at all unhinged. Not evil exactly....just not sharing humanity's particular goals.

It's interesting.

(Do you think they'll kill Bobby? DO YOU???? Reassure me!)

Haven't seen the whole thing yet, only bits and pieces, and the last piece. I'd say I have a VERY BAD FEELING about Bobby's 'If you die before me, I'mma kill you.' when I heard it.
