Hey all....

Back from the SF Sunday session convention, watching Jensen and Jared. I went with my dear husband who surprised me with tickets a few weeks ago and had so much more fun than I thought I would. And my husband was not the only guy there...I'd say the audience was about 15% male. That really surprised me!

But it was actually awesome. Thank you to everyone and anyone who encouraged me to go!

ETA because I forgot the best part ever! Jared made his puppy face at one point, pouting and chin tucked down, and Jensen, smiling affectionately, said, "I lost my shoe."

Observations under the cut...

I am a terrible reporter. People who know how to tweet already tweeted the best quotes, but here are my impressions.

I was only there to see the two Js, and they were definitely worth the price of admission. Jensen and Jared were so much fun to watch, completely entertaining, and even made slightly embarrassing questions interesting, although it absolutely killed me that nobody asked them about the brothers' relationship thus far in the season and where do we go from here...

They were really wonderful on stage together. Very funny and charming and kind. Jared was something else - just very animated and in constant motion. He must have moved his chair away from Jensen (first when Jensen's cold was brought up) a half dozen times. Then he would slowly scoot it back again.

They were very adorable together - they looked completely comfortable and smiled and laughed at each other, listening intently when the other was talking. They were both very enthusiastic about describing how Jared once caught a piece of candy from across the makeup room and made sound effects when he caught it. Jensen even got up and demonstrated. They talked about filming out in the cold and having to put ice cubes in their mouths so their breath didn't show. They liked filming the motel scenes the best, and that's where they improvised the most.

My husband's favorite part was them describing how they'd try to crack Misha up when he was in Castiel-mode while filming. Jensen acted out how Misha's shoulders would shake while he had his back turned, trying not to laugh at Jared.

They both danced - I have blurry pictures! They were so funny and goofy. They had a lot of fun playing with their microphones at the beginning and were drumming them against their chairs . One of them said that was like the coolest thing ever and thanked the audio guys.

After auctioning off his watch for something like $3000, Jared did this ridiculous somersalt onto the stage and knocked over his chair. It was not graceful, and he was just this enormous heap on the stage until he pulled himself up again. Jensen then said he could write a book about living with Jared and could title it "Why We Don't Have Nice Things."

(or something like that)

That was my favorite part!

Little things made me happy. Jensen straightened Jared's collar after he'd been messing with it. They both tossed their heads back when they laughed. Jensen got very, very serious when asked a question about directing his episode. They mentioned Season 7... "if we have season 7, we'll start filming in July."

It was kind of funny. From a distance, Jared was the more compelling one to watch. He was just so funny and so animated. So very, very non-Sam. He looked gorgeous - actually much better than on the show. His hair looked AWESOME, and those dimples - my dear God.

I had mentioned to my husband that Jensen didn't look quite as gorgeous (I used the term 'good looking', not gorgeous) in person. My husband had earlier actually walked right by Jensen, coming back from the restroom. (Men are SO lucky!) So he just looked at me funny and said, "I don't know. I think he looks exactly like he does on the show."

I didn't think so.

But once I was several feet away from them both of them getting an autograph, I couldn't stop staring at Jensen. He was absolutely stunning. It's impossible to believe that he actually looks like that. I think Jared looked much better in real life than he looks on the show or in photographs, but Jensen was kind of breathtaking. Really.

So it was over too soon. I bought tons of crap I don't need and got carsick on the Bart ride home, but overall - awesome! I'm so glad I got talked into going. And yes - I do have the best husband in the whole world! :)

I only wish you all were there. But maybe you were. Anyone else besides me? :)

Heeeeee, that's too awesome! I only saw the guys at the Chicago convention back in 2007, but my feelings were similar on the pretty. Jared in person is so much more attractive than on screen. His eyes especially--so pretty in person. And Jensen just seems to attractive to be real. LOL I'm glad you had a good time!

Aw, thanks! I was SO nervous to go, but it was actually fine and fun once I was there. I was very relieved my husband wasn't the only guy and that he had such a fun time. He's a fan of the show and has listened to me plot out so many of my stories that he's also invested. But it just felt like a weird thing to do.

And yeah - too pretty to be real - really does describe Jensen. I had to just stare.

And so very happy for you.

Yay for the J's not disappointing, for your husband being so awesome, and for you having a wonderful time.

That's what a con should be.

Mazel tov!

I actually do. :) We had such a good time together and took our picture in front of a giant picture of the Impala. We're such dorks for two people who've been married for over two decades. And I'm very glad I went!

Thanks. I thought about you and your so-so experience at your con. I don't think I would have enjoyed it if not for seeing the Js. We didn't stay to see Brock or the guy who plays Gabriel. Just not my thing...

But Jared and Jensen were wonderful - they're very good at this.

Yeah, maybe I'll try see them sometime in the future. I'm sure it'd be fun... I'm just weird about celebrities in general. Have you ever really really liked an actor or director or author, only to learn that they're a HUGE jackass in real life? And then their repugnant personality kinda ruins their work for you? And then of course you feel like a judgmental ass because the fact that they're a terrible person shouldn't matter?

That's why I choose to stay ignorant, though I'm sure Jensen and Jared are nothing but delightful in real life :D

Yes! Absolutely! That's why doing this was such a risk and worry for me, actually.

But they were utterly charming. Of course, they're paid to be, but honestly, they're good at it. My husband even said how impressed he was by them and how entertaining and funny and smart they were.

If anything, it's made me more on-fire for the show than ever. I'm actually dying to write again. Hoping to get some time in tomorrow. I owe De-Nugis a comment fic.

There will be canon dimples from Sam before the season is out. There must be. I have decreed it.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and it sounds like fun. Sometimes I get this character bleed feeling like everyone on Spn must be sad and angsty because the characters are so sad and angsty, it's nice to be reminded that somewhere behind the storyline are people having fun.

Date: 2011-01-17 04:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
I honestly think my biggest revelation was Jared, for that very reason. Sam is such a muted character in so many ways. And Jared is so vibrantly happy - or at least he does a good job coming off that way. Sam is hunched inward, trying to keep the legions of hell at bay. Jared is fiddling with his mike, jumping out of seat, and man, those dimples...

OH! And the best thing ever. I totally forgot the best thing ever! He made his puppy face, and Jensen, smiling affectionately, said, "I lost my shoe."

Love them!

I'm so glad you got to go! And thanks for sharing the experience with us! I love hearing about the guys. I hear you about loving to see Jared so happy, especially since Sam is such a burdened character. Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I look up con videos on youtube just to see Jared's dorky self. He makes me feel more normal as a person. ;)

Believe me - all you needed to relieve the angst was to watch Jared somersault (according to my husband who is taller) or crash (according to short me) onto the stage after running through the audience to hug the woman who bid on his watch. So dorky, so adorable.

Kind of rekindled my fannish fire, if that makes any sense. :)

I'm so glad your first con experience was so positive! Thanks so much for sharing your impressions it was lovely to read. I have booked tickets to my first ever con in 2012 - here in Australia, I really hope the boys sign up but if they don't I'm hoping to get to at least one other con in 2012 where they are confirmed. So the 'slightly embarrassing questions' didn't cause you to cringe too much? This is what I am very leery of I guess in terms of why I haven't been too keen to go in the past.

The slightly embarrassing questions did make me cringe, but I'm very easily embarrassed and they didn't seem to phase either of the guys. I"m sure they're used to it.

It was much better than I thought it would be. I really never thought I'd do something like this, and I'm so glad I did. The Australia vids from past cons have been wonderful!

How lovely to read your reaction!

From my experience in Chicago last fall, I completely know what you mean when you say it's hard to believe how beautiful Jensen is when you see him close up! My brain melted.

Do you recollect what charity they auctioned the watch for? Jared did the same thing in Chicago 2 years ago for the kids in his mom's school to attend a contest, and he didn't know how to do an auction, so Jensen stepped in and did the whole rapid-fire auctioneer thing and they got something like $3000 and Jared was overwhelmed. So did Jensen do the auctioning again?

Glad for you that you had fun--and your husband sounds like a sweetheart!

From: [identity profile]
My brain absolutely melted. I almost forgot what I was doing. My husband was having a talk with Cliff, and I don't remember that at all. Just. Stare. At. Jensen.

This charity was for an organization dedicated to the trash piling up in the middle of the ocean. I didn't get the name of the charity, but Jared said the trash was "as big as the state of Texas and nothing is as big as Texas!"

They both did auctioning, for the watch and also for some props for ep 6-16.

Are you going to the next convention in Chicago?

From: [identity profile]
I confess to having the weirdest reaction after my photo op--I actually had to hide in the restroom and have a meltdown--and I'm not a person who does that kind of thing at all! I was just so overwhelmed! And I didn't react to Jared and Misha like that, so I blame Jensen :)

Yep, I will be at Chicago in October. See you there?

Oh! Thanks so much for sharing! This was a delightful recap. I'll be going to my first convention ever this summer. Actually maybe 2! I bought photo ops for one in New Jersey which is near me. And I'll be going to Vancouver. Seriously, this addiction is out of hand. But then I read things like this and think it's worth it.

I'm so pleased for you and thank you for sharing!

Both Js are supposed to be in Vancouver. Only Jared in NJ. I'm hoping that Genevieve is there, too. It's so close to NYC and I'm pretty sure he said in an interview that they got engaged in NYC (at a museum). It would be really sweet seeing them together.

I'm scared to death of the photo op. But in the end, everyone says it's worth it. I also bought an autograph for Jared for NJ. Thought I'd get him to sign the TV Guide.

Your descriptions of them both was neat to read. Do you think seeing them 'live' will impact your writing? That's what I'm most curious about personally.

I love hearing about the boys and how great they are together. And Jared is such a corn ball. I love that boy for that, as much as I love Jensen for his slightly more reserved personality.

Yeah I'm still around reading. LOL I keep thinking if I get through this week I can get this done and it just isn't happening that way.
A bit of it is that I get in a funk sometimes where I am hermit-ish. LOL Which considering I am talking about the internet here is a bit, well.. weird, I geuss. Gives you an idea how hermit-y I get in RL.
January is a hard month. Its after Christmas rush, so depressing anyway, but its also cold and grey and hasn't quit snowing for two weeks. It's the month I realise I still have four more months of this weather and lose interest in everthing because of it.
I am so glad you posted about your time at the con. It really was just the smiley thoughts I needed.

I'm *so* glad you went and had such a good time! It reminds me of my experience - and the same reactions. Jared is much better looking in person (maybe because he smiles so much more? And honestly, his hair looks better when he's himself and the crew isn't touching it). And I remember my surprise at how un-Sam-like Jared's personality is.

And Jensen? Close up? Not even human, how good looking he is.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your impressions! (And if you somehow find yourself planning to hit the Chicago con, let me know!!)

Jared is gorgeous too but not like Jensen.

Hey, Deb...did you ask a question to Jared and Jensen? There is a vid up of someone asking a question off camera and she said that she was there because her husband got tickets for her birthday. Jared says something like..."What do you want for your birthday? I'll give you Jared and Jensen."

I was absolutely terrified of embarrassing fan moments, but it turned out so much better than I thought it would, and it also reinvigorated my muse, which had been dormant since November. They were just so charming.

If you ever get a chance, go! I wasn't going to but was talked into it.

And yeah, definitely the most awesome husband! :)
